Save The Circus

  • "Amusement unfetters the mind from its environs and changes the dreary monotony of the factory's spindles to the joyous song of the meadow lark. It gives flight to the caged soul to treat in airy places. It softens the wrinkles of sorrow, makes smiles of frowns. This is the mission of amusement-and the circus, with its innocent sights of joy for the children and its power to make all men and women, children again for atleast one day, comes the nearest of any form of amusement to fullfilling the mission." Farmgirl Cookies

Cowboycookie

In my book there's nothin' better than a good cookie! Dubbed the "Cowboy Cookie", by one of our local bakeries it has been a big seller for years and rightly so. It's loaded with nuts, coconut and chocolate chips and I finally came across a recipe for it in Martha Stewart Magazine so I had to try it. However, I'm calling them farmgirl cookies because this farmgirl can't get enough of them!

Here's the recipe:

2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
8 ounces (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cups brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoonvanilla extract
1 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup pecan halves
1/2 cup shredded unsweetened coconut

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, I used a tablespoon to scoop out a big helping of dough onto the cookie sheet. Bake for 11-13 minutes. Wrap up a a half dozen of these, tie with twine and give it as a gift!!

summer folly

Inthefield
a sweet little mutton head out in the fields

I have been thinking on felted soap, naturally dyed wool and the completely overwhelming yet wonderful Fiber Fest Show I went to last year in Asheville. Roaming around that huge auditorium, with a friend looking all all the naturally dyed fibers together was one of the best shopping days I've ever had, although we didn't buy anything. Truth be told neither one of us had a clue how to even felt or spin for that matter, nor did we understand the lingo everyone was using...it was like everyone was speaking a totally different language. I left the show with a bit more knowledge I had than first going in {I know what a rove is now} but ore important we left with a greater appriciation for all the artisans involved in this beautifully creative craft.

Forgive me , summer folly has completely engulfed me and I have enjoyed every minute of it. My etsy shop is a bit bare right now, but there will be more new things coming soon.

Collage Table

3

This is a small end table I've been working on here and there, as a personal project. The table belonged to my grandmother, who passed away quite some years ago so as I painted this I thought of her. It's always so funny to me how my subconcoius plays a role in what I'm painting, meaning I didn't realize it until I was done and although it wasn't my intention, this is how I saw my grandmother Frances...she was a dreamer.

Unable to travel to far away lands, she lived in books. At a very young age she introduced me to the wonderful world of getting lost in words and going wherever my heart desired. Being an only child and a very shy little girl, my world was full of fantasy and I can never remeber a time when I wasn't busy drawing, painting, writing or creating something.

Working on this table has given me a renewed love for painting and being able to talk with Tracey about painting over the phone has pushed me forward to making more pieces, thank you Tracey!!

Here are a few picks of the collage sheets I made for the table, that would become the center of the flowers. Next time I will take more pics of the process itself.
